THE PLAY OF THE WEEK

When was the last time you did something that made you nervous and excited at the same time?

That feeling – that beautiful combination of nerves and anticipation – is where opportunity lives. But most of us avoid it like the plague.

Courage comes before confidence. You don’t wait until you feel ready. You act your way into readiness.

Every breakthrough in my career happened when I chose courage over comfort. From my first speaking gig 28 years ago to working in New York City to launching new programs – the pattern is always the same: Get scared, do it anyway, then adjust and repeat.

The cost of playing it safe is always greater than the cost of taking action. Your comfort zone is a beautiful place, but nothing grows there.

GET ON THE ICE

Ready to choose courage over comfort? Here’s your four-step process:

  • Decide what you want: Be honest with yourself. What’s the one thing you really want but have been avoiding because it scares you?
  • Go all in and get scared: Commit fully to the decision. Feel those nerves – they’re proof you’re onto something important.
  • Just do it: Don’t avoid it, don’t overthink it. Take the first step, even if your hands are shaking.
  • Learn, adjust, repeat: After you act, review what worked, what didn’t, and what you’ll do differently next time. Then find your next scary opportunity.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

“Opportunity lies in discomfort. When I am nervous and excited, that is a beautiful place to be.”
